Working Paper Series 14: Food Practices in Brazil During the Pandemic

The Working Paper 14, titled “Práticas de aquisição de alimentos e do comer no Brasil em tempos de pandemia”, by Eryka Galindo, Marco Antonio Teixeira, Melissa de Araújo, Larissa Mendes, Milene Pessoa, and Renata Motta, explores changes in food practices during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Based on a nationwide survey from late 2020, the study reveals reduced trips for food purchases (68.9%) and dining out (74.4%) due to social distancing. It also highlights the increased use of digital platforms for food shopping and delivery, alongside a sharp decline (66.1%) in visits to open-air markets. These shifts impact food security, dietary quality, and small-scale vendors.
