Mariana Calcagni and Lea Zentgraf participate in the third and final phase of the Global Research Academy in São Paulo

The Global Research Academy “Sustainable Cities” for doctoral students jointly planned and carried out by Freie Universität Berlin, King’s College London, and the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) entered its final phase on February 27, 02.

Our doctoral researchers Lea Zentgraf and Mariana Calcagni along with 28 doctoral students from the three universities came together at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics (IME) of the USP for the opening act, in which the participants presented the progress of their research projects. During four days the participants had an extensive program with field excursions and lectures on diverse topics and approaches towards more Sustainability in urban areas.

The young scholars developed projects about just distribution of green spaces in the city, protection of the homeless in extreme temperatures, the importance of public participation in the creation and maintenance of urban public spaces, access to water in cities, and management of food waste in the retail sector.
